Women and HIVHIV/STIs are increasingly affecting Peruvian women, and this study explored the social and cultural aspects that place women at increased vulnerability for infection by HIV/STIs. Two main aspects were investigated: 1) the ideal of “romantic love” that some women have and this concept plays a role in their sexual practices, complicating the free and responsible expression of their sexuality; and 2) how coercion and sexual violence increase women’s risk for HIV/STI. |
