Bridging the Gap

This study aims to improve understanding of the ways in which male bisexual behaviors take place in specific communities, in relation to understandings of sexual and gender identities and HIV/STI risk configurations in Peru. The main idea behind this study is that MSMW may be more vulnerable to HIV and STI because they either do not see themselves at risk (e.g. they do not identify as gay and therefore do not fear a “gay disease”), or have sex with other men in the context of transactional sex and alcohol/drug use (which limit their ability to protect themselves) or have limited access to health services, particularly when the quality of health care implies overtly discussing HIV risk, anal sex and health conditions frequent among MSM.
