Lee Todd Miller, MD, is Vice Chair for Education within the Department of Pediatrics at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA. In this role, Lee has leadership and oversight responsibilities for both undergraduate and graduate medical education within the Department of Pediatrics. Over the last 25 years he has also made substantial contributions to medical student counseling, and has helped nurture the pediatric careers and global health interests of countless students and residents. In recognition of this, Dr. Miller is the unprecedented 12-time recipient of the UCLA School of Medicine's Golden Apple Award selected each year by the graduating senior class. In addition, he was selected for the UCLA School of Medicine Humanism in Medicine Award sponsored by the American Association of Medical Colleges, and he is now a two-time recipient of the David Geffen School of Medicine Excellence in Education Award. Dr. Miller was also honored by the Chancellor of UCLA as the recipient of the University of California Academic Senate Distinguished Teaching Award.

Dr. Miller's research and interests focus on innovative ways to teach at both the undergraduate and graduate medical education levels, both here at UCLA and in diverse global settings. Over the years he has worked in Ethiopia, Zambia, Kenya, Rwanda, Zaire (now DR Congo), South Africa, Mozambique, Afghanistan, Myanmar, Ecuador, and Peru, and has made substantial contributions to the Diarrheal Diseases Control Program at the World Health Organization during a sabbatical leave in Geneva.

Closer to home, Dr. Miller directed the medical student and residency teaching programs in pediatrics at Cedars-Sinai for over 18 years before assuming the Vice Chair for Education position at the David Geffen School of Medicine. He has co-edited and published a core textbook of pediatrics used widely by medical students across the country. In addition, the 12th edition of his book guiding medical students through the residency selection process was recently published. On the national level, Dr. Miller is a member of several professional organizations, including the American Academy of Pediatrics, the Academic Pediatric Association and the Association of Pediatric Program Directors.

In the fall of 2010, Drs. Miller, Thomas Coates, and Risa Hoffman launched the Global Health Education Program (GHEP) at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA. The goals of this program include creating a comprehensive global health undergraduate and graduate educational program, fostering a vibrant research portfolio, and building a national and international reputation for excellence in global health.

Dr. Miller earned his bachelor's degree at Bowdoin College and his medical degree at the University of Virginia School of Medicine. He completed his postgraduate training and was named Chief Resident in Pediatrics at the University of Virginia.
