Kelika Konda, PhD, Postdoctoral Fellow

Email: kkonda@jhsph.edu

Kelika Konda's research focuses on strategies to prevent HIV and sexually transmitted infections (STIs) within the social and epidemiologic contexts of Peru. As an undergraduate, Dr. Konda studied Environmental Science and Political Science at Barnard College. She went on to be a Peace Corps Volunteer in the Dominican Republic, where she developed an interest in HIV prevention and public health. She received her master's in Health Science and PhD from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. Her master's work focused on social and behavioral interventions in the Department of International Health, and her PhD was in infectious diseases in the Department of Epidemiology. Dr. Konda began working on a large clinical trial to test a behavioral intervention for HIV prevention in Peru under the mentorship of Thomas Coates in 2004 while she was still a master’s student. Since that time, she has focused on understanding the epidemiology of HIV/STIs in Peru, specifically among men who have sex with men and on the development of HIV/STI prevention interventions tailored to their needs.

Current Research Interests

Multilevel Behavioral Prevention for MSM: Dr. Konda is taking part in a pilot study of a multilevel behavioral intervention that includes group and community prevention components for the prevention of HIV and STIs among MSM in Lima, Peru.

Patterns of Partnerships among MSM: Understanding the partnership characteristics and patterns among MSM populations to be able to design better HIV/STI prevention interventions.
